10 Most Popular “End of the World” Prophecies



1. Back in 1844, Baptist preacher William Miller made his followers believe that Doomsday was set to happen on October 22, 1844. Obviously, it never came but that saw the end of the Millerete congregation.

2. 2012 was believed to be the end of the cycle in the Mayan calendar thus it was set as the year that the world and everything in it will perish. This prophecy has now gained so many believers.

3. As the year 2000 neared many believed that it will also bring about the end of the world. There were even fears of the computers wreaking havoc. Statistics show that $600 Billion was spent worldwide due to this paranoia.

4. Wayne Brent aka Michael Travesser, head of the Lord Our Righteous Church, believed himself to be the messiah. There were speculations that on Halloween night, Travesser will lead his followers to commit mass suicide. The End of the World Cult filmed everything even as Travesser led his very much alive followers out of their church.

5. In 1917, Lucia Santos and her two cousins declared that the Virgin Mary appeared to them. Years later, Lucia wrote in her memoirs that the Virgin Mary told her 3 secret prophecies. In 2000 the last secret was revealed but it was unclear if it was indeed referring to the end of the world.
6. Pope Innocent believed himself to be the biblical priest-king Melchizedek and was very power-hungry. He disliked Islam so much that he believed that the prophet Muhammad was the beast written about in the Book of Revelation. He even predicted that the world will end in 1284 by adding up 666 and 618, the year Islam was founded.

7. Ronald Weinland, author and minister, predicted in his book 2008 – God’s Final Witness that the end of the world will come in 2010.
8. A council of 13 grandmothers from all over the world was held in New York City back in 2004. They claimed that the council meeting itself was prophesied decades ago.
9. Preacher Cotton Mather was a witch hunter who predicted that the world was about to end and gave four doomsday dates starting in 1697. At the end of 1697 he set it again to 1736 and again changed it to 1716. He again later changed it to 1717 and was still very adamant that the end was near until he died in 1728.
10. Isaac Newton is a popular scientist for formulating the laws of motion and gravity. He was also an avid apocalyptic thinker who searched for clues on when the world will end. In 2003 his computations on an envelope was discovered and it revealed the year 2060.
